THEY NEED YOUR HELP!

Being a sanctuary for abandoned or homeless elderly dogs means veterinary care is our single largest continuous expense.  Often the dogs come to us needing emergency care, surgery and/or medication, at the very least a check up and blood tests.

The veterinarians that we use all support us with discounts, and are generous with their time. Even with this much needed support our vet bills are between $65,000 and $70,000 annually.

Care ranges from the conventional wellness checks, bloodwork, dental care, and medications, to specialized cardiac care and orthopaedic surgery.

We also believe in an integrative approach to the health care of our seniors, utilizing Chiropractic treatments, Reiki, Therapeutic Massage,  as well as homeopathy, and other natural medications where appropriate.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

The Missy Foundation is a registered charity (CRA #87124 4695 RR0001) and as such we are able to provide a donation receipt for tax purposes for all Canadian donations we receive.

Your donations enable us to provide our dogs not just with vet care but also with the highest quality nutrition and supplements, yummy treats, warm and snuggly blankies, heating and cooling mats, and toys.

They have a large, fenced-in area to run and play, a warm house where they can snuggle, or curl up and sleep wherever they wish – doggie beds, cushions and blankies galore… But most of all, they are LOVED and WANTED and CHERISHED for the remainder of their days.

EMMIE NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Always a picky eater, as is a common trait of the breed, Emmy recently become so fussy, she refused almost everything we tried to give her. After blood tests, X-rays, and an ultrasound, exploratory surgery revealed a large mass, approximately 3” near her bladder and in a very difficult location. Emmy’s angels had been working overtime. So has her veterinary surgeon Dr Lorne, who used all of his expertise to remove this massive growth. Due to its location was not able to take the usual wide margins along the artery wall required to ensure 100% removal of possible cancer cells. Biopsies of the mass have revealed that it was a retro-peritoneal haemangiosarcoma, a cancer of the blood vessels, and one of the most aggressive forms of cancer found in dogs.

She is currently active, and alert – like her old self and happy to greet everyone who comes through our gates. A comprehensive program of oral chemotherapy and naturopathic supplements will help us to prolong the quality of Emmy’s life as long as we can. Donations will be used to cover the costs of her recent surgery 5,000, and to support some of the medications she requires.
